Building in Public

I’m building this blog in public. I’m opening the door to my business, showing my path, the decisions I make and where it leads me. Every day I try to spend at least 10 minutes writing, creating, and sharing my content with the world. This project has actually expanded my world significantly – in the past 5 months, I’ve written ~16 posts (excluding this one) and received over 552 views. That doesn’t sound like much, but that’s 552 more views than prior to starting this venture. Which show’s that there’s something to pursuing ones interests, especially if it’s a passion project. If it makes money, that’s just the cherry on top.

I spent the past 10 years doing self discovery, self study in the personal finance space and reading books on the topic of financial literacy. I’ve watched thousands (and I do mean thousands) of YouTube videos, taking note of creators and figure heads that have a wealth of knowledge and behaviors that I aim to emulate (list of Creators below). All the while, taking notes and writing my own personal journals and books worth of content, sharing it with nobody.

But that all changed in October of 2023! Taking the ‘building things in public’ mantra to heart.

Things you can expect me to build in the public eye, in 2024:

  • My affiliate platform – where by I share the books, products and services that have helped me on the way towards financial freedom.
  • My art business – where I produce and sell my traditional and digital artworks, stickers, prints and other goods.
  • Lists on top of lists. Thinking about it, everything is a list; be it an organized list, or an unorganized one. Lists of books I’ve read, places I have visited, foods I’ve enjoyed, things I haven’t enjoyed, how many times I’ve worked out – you name it, I have a list for it.

With that, I would like to share some of the Internet personalities (read ‘influencers’) that have helped me on my journey through their insight, their kind words and their knowledge.

Noteworthy YouTubers:

The Plain Bagel – A Canadian economics major that works for an investment firm. His content is usually pretty level headed, focusing on economic reporting and news, with some silly humor interlaced between each episode. Lastly in this list, the Iced Coffee Hour. It’s a duo of Jack and Graham, two younger gentlemen that run a podcast focusing on financial wellness, hot news topics and personal growth. They bring on guests that offer insight into the world of finance, business and self-development. Each episode lasts about an hour and the hosts a different guest each time with different professionals offering their advice week to week. You can watch them on their channel here https://youtube.com/@TheIcedCoffeeHour?si=4yU-YSjbLMjj3gzO.

Final note- How do I keep this level of productivity with all my projects? Candidly, I work as often as I can. Right now, the goal is to work and to build in public as much and as frequently as I can. The goal – is to work. I’m doing cardio at the gym right now (on an elliptical) and writing this blog post. I make the time in between other activities. I work at work. I work at home. I work on vacation – taking down notes, taking photos, illustrating, thinking, capturing thoughts and experiences as they happen.

With that, I also take plenty of breaks, I relax, I go for walks with the wife, I write letters to family and friends – it’s not JUST about working. It’s about building something outside myself and sharing it with you all. You can do it too, just have to put in… the work.
